Jaxson's Surgery Day

Today went very well although I was really nervous. Jax did not wake up until about 9:45 AM just in time for us to get him ready and head over the Primary Children's.
Once we got there we checked in and they gave Ty and I a name tag and a bright pink wrist band that had Jaxson's name on it and everything about him. That way they would know that we are his legal guardians and they could release medical information to us. After we checked in we went to the second floor. We gave the lady at the desk the paperwork. We did not have time to barely sit down and start up the xbox game for Jaxson and they were ready for us to go back. Once we got back we went into a room. They took Jax weight, blood pressure, height, pulse, and oxygen. They were unable to get a good blood pressure however because Jax would not stay still. He did not like that thing to "hug" his arm. After all of that was done we got him changed into hospital clothing. The ones at Primary's are very nice. No butts hanging out lol. They then came in and gave him his calming medicine which was called versed. They told us that he would be slightly wobbly and would not be able to walk. They had him sit in a wagon with a pillow and a blanket in it. It was very nice. Then we just pulled him around the hospital in that.
After all that was over we went to another waiting room. They gave him some cars to play with. He had quite the delayed reaction. We were chuckling about how slow he was moving and the anesthesiologist said oh good the versed is working. She told us all about what would happen while he was in surgery. She said that they would put a mask over his face that would make him to go to sleep once he was sound asleep they would move the mask and put a tube down his throat. However he would not ever know that that happened. Once he was asleep they would also start the IV. They would monitor his breathing, heart rate and all of that throughout the surgery. That made my nerves a bit calmer I was worried that it would be tragic but they way that they made it sound it was quite painless. Once she talked to us and we signed the paperwork. We walked him down the hall. At the end of that hall was a doorway. There we gave Jax a hug and a kiss and told him good luck. That was the hardest part for me I almost started to cry but I had to keep it together for him. When they started pulling him away from us he asked why isn't my mommy coming. That broke my heart. I wish that I could have gone with him. He seemed to do ok with her though he did not cry. I think that medicine was key in this situation.
After we walked him to the end of the hall a lady from the front desk showed us the way back to the waiting room. There we would wait for an hour and fifteen minutes. I think that was the longest hour of my life. I went and got Jax lenses switched out in his glasses and talked to Emily at the glasses place a minute. We frequent there. Then went back to the waiting room got some phone calls done that I needed to get taken care of. After all of that I got some breakfast and talked to the lady at the desk a while. I then decided that I wanted to go for a nervous walk. So the lady at the desk gave the OR a call too see the progress. They said he was stable and all was good and could take anywhere from an 30 minutes to an hour more. So I walked my happy self down to the Insta Care and talked to my mom and walked back. By then it was almost time for him to be done. YAY.
10 minutes after I got back there was a call on the phone saying that Jaxson was all done and we would need to be moved to a different waiting room to wait to talk to the Dr. Dr. Young came in and said everything went great and he would be cranky for a while. She stated that we would need to give him eye drops twice a day for a week. No swimming in swimming pools or playing in a sand box for 2 weeks. We laughed and said that we would take him to a pool just to look at it and say he couldn't go in. She laughed along with us. She also said that we would need to continue the patching and glasses to strengthen that eye more. However with the glasses that he should be mostly straight. She said there was a slim chance that they did not get it right on and they may need to go in and fix it but those are very slim chances. She said that this surgery has an 80 % chance of working and he may need to have it again later in life.
After all of that we went and waited back in the big waiting room again for them to get Jax woken up some. Seemed like forever since we knew that he was out of surgery at this point. They finally called and said that one parent could go back and be with him in post op. I got back there and he was balling his eyes out, screaming and flailing his arms. He was not happy about the IV. He also said his eye hurt. I talked to him and we decided that it would be best that I held him and rocked him. It just so happened the the nurse in Post Op was my neighbor. She started telling me that red heads take the anesthesia different and they wake up mad. So they gave him more pain meds since he was stating that his eye was hurting when he woke up. We got him calmed down and he would stop crying. Then he would wake up screaming and pulling on the IV. We stayed there about 15 minutes then we moved to Recovery. There Tyler was able  to come in and be with us. He had quite a bit of air in his belly from everything going on and was burping up a storm and Tyler and I would chuckle. He slept in there peacefully for about 40 minutes while I rocked him. Then the nurse said well we can wake him up and give some Tylenol or let him sleep a little more. We decided that we would wake him up. He was not very happy about that at all. He took the Tylenol then he had some more air and he got sick and threw up. That was quite the experience. The nurse came in and helped us clean it up. Then she said we would need to wait 20 minutes and they could give him another full dose. So we waited. He woke up during that time and started to play with the cars that he got in the beginning. When we wanted to give him his second dose of Tylenol he was not having it. So we tried bribery. The nurse said you can have 2 cookies if you take this. Would not do that we tried you can have 2 candy canes at home if you take it. Well finally the nurse said if you take it I will take out your IV. He still would not take the Tylenol. She laughed and said he is definitely a red head. Stubborn as could be. He kept opening his eyes and looking at the IV. Finally he said "I'm ready to take it" he took it like a big boy and the IV came out just like that.
After that we were able to get him dressed and go home. We made a pit stop at the Insta Care to see my mom on the way out. He was not happy when we had to leave her. On the way home he said I need a sweet tart sucker so we stopped and got him some and then came home. He slept most of the afternoon and evening as they said he would. They said he could sleep as much as he wanted but he needed to be wakeable. She said if you tickle his foot he should jerk things like that. I was ok with that. After all that napping he was ready to go. I think I might be a little too couscous but all we need is for him to injure that eye since it is so vulnerable. It is quite red and irritated. It should be better tomorrow hopefully. Thats all I got today! Good night everyone we have had quite the eventful day.

Jaxson's Eye Surgery

Tomorrow my little Jaxson is having surgery on his right eye. He does have a lazy eye on that side. They are hoping that they will be able to fix the cross and that he will be able to use his eyes together as everyone else does. When we first starting going to see the Dr. about this a couple months ago she stated that he was going blind in that eye. So there the saga starts. We have been patching that eye for 2 hours a day and he wears glasses to help him to see. They are not like everyone elses. They magnify everything in hopes that if its closer that he will not need to look so hard and he will not cross in as much. Well they were hoping that with patching and glasses that the issue would fix itself. The vision has gotten better but not the crossing.
So tomorrow he goes in for surgery as I stated before. The surgery is about an hour and fifteen minutes. They apparently just move the eye around in the socket. What they do is they loosen one of the muscles and the other they take out part of it and tighten it together. They said that it is easy for kids to bounce back from the surgery and he will only be grumpy for a day or two but his eye will be red for a couple weeks.
I am having anxiety about it today alot. When they called they told me that his surgery was scheduled for 12:00 pm. Then they called back and said that there had been a cancelation in the room and they would be able to move him up to 11:30am. Well that is still a terrible time for a 3 year old. Im hoping that he will sleep in and we will just be able to wake him up right before we have to leave at 9:30 am. They stated that he was not able to eat or drink after 12:00am however he could have water, apple juice, or sprite till 8:00am. At least that is something. The other thing that they asked when they called is how will he do with being taken away from yall for them to prep him. What will happen is that the anesthesiologist will come and he will take him away for the purpose of putting him to sleep. I said well I don't think that that will go over well he is clingy. Not just for him but me either lol. I like to be there for comfort in case. Well they said that they are going to give him something to calm him down called versed. After that goes into affect at that time the anesthesiologist will come and get him and then prep him. He is getting a local anesthesia with intibation for this surgery. I am hoping that all goes well but I am slightly freaking out. Don't think there will be much sleeping going on for me. I know that I should not worry all will be fine. However I worry about my little Jax and us not being able to be there for comfort when he is going to sleep. Hopefully it won't be to bad for him. I am thankful that these people know what they are doing and we are able to go to a children's hospital for this procedure. Hopefully I can get some sleep before tomorrow. Im sure that couple hours will be the longest of my life!
